Come to a clinic where the doctor knows your name. Heard that on 850 KOA commercial by Tom Martino for Dr. Heuer’s Laser Eye Clinic.
There is a commercial for Laser Eye Clinic. The announcer is encouraging us to come to a clinic where “the doctor knows your name”. I found that kinda spiritual. Go figure. Scripture tells us that our names, those who believe in God and the One He raised from the dead, will be written in the Book of Life. I like that. I like the name of that book, LIFE. I never did care too much for Life Magazine. Too newsy. Not enough substance. Too many pictures. But I can get a handle on the Book of Life.
Christian comedian Brad Stine has something to say about handles on Bible carriers. He lambastes us Christians for putting our Bibles carriers, which have handles on them. He takes this skit to the limit and eventually we end up with a bicycle designed to carry our Bible because it is too cumbersome for us to carry. We take for granted that we are still able to carry our Bibles out in the open. (The ACLU hasn’t sued to have that banned…yet). But people in China are being thrown in jail for having one page of a Bible in their possession. I took my Bible out of its carrier.
I wonder if heaven will be like Cheers – yeah, where everybody knows your name. I just finished the final book in the Left Behind series. It was good. The whole series was great. I was talking to my sister about these books. I have to admit the writing is a bit dull in places, so you have to use your imagination a lot to get a better sense of what is happening. It is awfully difficult to write about something like the end of the world as documented in Scripture, without all the colorful language and metaphors to describe the chaos and ensuing mayhem. Which sounds better...and they all cursed God, or, and they said &^% ^&!@ (*&^ %$$# ##%$% . You can add your own “sauce” and see what comes out.
I am now a technological Christian! Aren't you glad to hear that? I have the Bible on my PDA. In fact, I took that to church today instead of the book. I created bookmarks for each of the readings, "turned" to them during the readings. I am now a certified geek. Or, I should be certified. I can't remember which. I don't think that will last too long. I feel better having the book. Better to whap folks upside the head with.
