Okay, are you ready for a laugh? I mean, this is really funny. I have never heard of anything that made me howl with laughter! No, wait. I didn't howl with laughter; I think I screamed with disgust.
It turns out that the library in Meriden, Conn has refused a local artist, Mary Morley, to display some of her paintings depicting Jesus because they thought some of the paintings may be disturbing to children. Turns out the paintings were to be displayed in the children's section. Okay, I can give in to a painting of the crucifixion or of Jesus carrying His cross as possibly being disturbing to a 3 year old (maybe a 3-year old of an unchurched family). But, the Resurrection? Jesus wearing a halo? Disturbing? The artist acquiesed to removing the "disturbing" paintings, but begged to have the others displayed. Guess what. Yep. Meriden Library said noway Jose. No explanation was given; just a firm no. Seems I heard on the news that someone said that these paintings were not in tune with the community, or something to that effect.
On the plus side, this issue did spark a lively discussion before and during dinner. Question I posed was if a Muslim said that Christianity was a false religion and a Christian was to say the Islam was a false religion, which one would be gutted by public opinion? We all agreed that the Christian would be hung out to dry as being intolerant, whereas the Muslim would be expressing his or her opinion.
Almighty God, you have promised to come again to us. Could you please hurry? Amen
